Professor Binns

Professor Binns is the oldest (and only ghost) teacher at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He began teaching when he was alive, but one day he simply got up from his chair in the staffroom to go teach, left his body behind, and didn't even notice., and he has been teaching that way ever since. Professor Binns has a raspy, monotonous voice which drones on and on each and every class, while the students day-dream or just doze off. Hermione is the only one who ever pays attention or takes more than one note per class. In COS, Hermione asks Professor Binns about the Chamber of Secrets, which was the only time anyone actually listened to what he was saying. He also always gets people's names confused, calling Harry "Perkins" instead of Potter, Hermione "Grant" instead of Granger, and Seamus "O'Flaherty" instead of Finnigan.
