Philosopher's Stone
Chapter Two
The Vanishing Glass
Summary:
We find Harry, ten years later, being terribly mistreated by the Dursleys.
who spoil their fat son (who is barely a month older than Harry) rotten. When Mrs. Figg (the batty old neighbor who watches
Harry when the Dursleys go out) breaks her leg and is unable to watch Harry when Dudley and his best friend go to the zoo
for Dudley's birthday, the Dursleys have no other option but to bring Harry with them. While there, they buy Dudley and Piers
(his best friend) large chocolate ice creams (Harry gets a chep lemon ice only because the lady who was serving them asked
what Harry wanted before they could leave), and they pay him absolutely no attention whatsoever. Things take a bad turn, however,
when the Dursleys visit the reptile exhibits and Harry finds himself in front of a boa constrictor who would not move for
Dudley, Piers, or Vernon. The boa winks at Harry, and he begins talking to it, not really expecting anything to happen, when
the snake begins to talk back. Suddenly, Piers sees the snake moving and jabbing its head, and summons Dudley and Uncle Vernon.
When Dudley pushes Harry to the ground so that he could get a better look at the boa, Harry becomes angry, and those wizarding
powers kick in-- he makes the glass to the boa's exhibit dissapear into thin air.
