Philosopher's Stone
Chapter Twelve
The Mirror of Erised

Summary:
With the holidays nearly upon them, Harry, Ron, and Hermione are spending every spare moment in the library, trying to figure out who Nicholas Flamel is, and Hagrid dosen't like it. Once the holidays begin and Hermione leaves, Ron begins teaching Harry wizard's chess. On Christmas morning, Harry is both suprised and delighted to see a gathering of parcels at the foot of his bead (understandable, considering the fact that he had never recieved real Christmas presants before). One of the presants, a gift he could use forever, is an Invisibility Cloak, sent by a mysterious person with unfamiliar handwriting. The note says that "Your father left this in my possession before he died. It is time it was returned to you.
Use it well. A Very Merrry Christmas to you." Deciding to try the clock out, Harry goes on a wild excursion which lands him the room in which the Mirror of Erised is stored. It reads Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi, which is backwards for I show not your face but your hearts desire. When he looks into it, Harry sees his entire family, fitting seeing as how he has never (as far as he can remember) seen them before. This is his forst time seeing any of them that he will actually remember. When Ron looks into it, he sees himself Head Boy and captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team. When Dumbledore sees peers into is, he says that he sees himself with a pair of "thick, woolen socks." Harry is not sure that Dumbledore is being completely honest with him right now, but how truthful can be expected when it pertains to such a personal question?
