Summary:
Harry and Ron have their first flying lesson, which is quickly halted when Neville's broom lifts him off of the ground, speeds him around, and drops him back down, fracturing his wrist in the proscess. However, the flying continues when Malfoy snatches the Remembrall after Madam Hooch carries Neville up to the Hospital Wing and Harry, for the first time at Hogwarts, plays the hero and follows the skillfull Malfoy up into the air after it. Malfoy, now unprotected by Crabbe and Goyle, panicks and throws the Remembrall into the air and speeds back down; Harry, however, goes after it and catches it in a specatcular dive. Professor McGonagall sees Harry's dive and is furious at his rule-breaking, but is distracted from punishment by his potential as the new Gryffindor Seeker. Oliver Wood, captain of the Gryffindor team, is delighted to have a Seeker, as is Ron, who is awed and amazed by Harry's appointment as a first-year to that position. Malfoy challenges Harry to a wizard's duel at midnight that day, but Hermione and Neville both end up tagging along with him and Ron. In the end, they realize that it was only a scheme to get Harry and Ron in trouble with Filch, who he tipped off, but they manage to hide from him; however, their spot of concealement turns out to be quite dangerous-- it is the forbidden third-floor corridor, in which the four discover Fluffy, the three-headed dog.
