Philosopher's Stone
Chapter Ten
Halloween

Summary:
Harry recieves a new Nimbus Two Thousand from Professor McGonagall, which thrills Ron just about as much as it does Harry, and makes Malfoy angry and jealous beyond belief. Wood also teaches Harry all about Quidditch-- the positions, balls, scoring, etc. During the Halloween Feast, Professor Quirrell runs into the Great Hall, saying that there was a "Troll-- in the dungeous-- thought you ought to know." Harry and Ron begin heading back to their common room just like everybody else, but almost immediately realize that Hermione was still iin the bathroom (she had heard Ron making fun of her earlier that day and refused to leave the girl's bathroom) and had no knowledge of the troll. The find the troll on their way to Hermione and lock it in the nearest room; however, that turned out to be the bathroom that Harmione was in. Harry and Ron unlock the door and go in, to find Hermione cornered by the troll. Harry, in a desperate attempt to save her, takes a running jump and fixed his arms around the trolls neck; Ron uses their newly-learned spell (Wingardium Leviosa) to, affectively but unintentionally, levitate the trolls club and drop it upon its own head, knocking it out. Hermione, grateful for their help, takes all of the blame for the events when the teachers discover them with the unconcious troll, and Gryffindor ultimately gains five points (five points off for Hermione and five points each to Harry and Ron). This "bonding" experience makes them good friends.
