Magical Creatures H

HAG
The hag is a large, savage creature which eats raw liver and often sneaks into The Leaky Cauldron, The Hogs Head, and the Three Broomsticks dreses in thick balaclavas.

HIPPOGRIFF
The Hippogriff is a gargantuan bird-horse mix, measuring from about twelve to fifteen feet in length. They have glossy feathers, sharp pink beaks, long, flexing legs, and large eyes. They come in many different colors, including stormy gray, inly black, pinkish roan, gleaming chesnut, and bronze. They can be very gentle in nature, but will attack ferociously if you insult them. Before you can approach a Hippogriff, you must first bow to it. Then, you wait and see if it bows back. If it does, you may approach it, pet it, and even ride it; however, if it does not bow back, deproach slowly and carefully.

HIPPOGRIFF, BUCKBEAK THE
Buckbeak is Hagrid's favorite Hippogriff. He is gray, with gleamning feathers, sharp talons, and keen orange eyes. He was almost executed under the orders of the Ministry of Magic, but was rescued by Harry and Hermione and escaped with Sirius. He eventually becomes Harry's legally, but Harry returns him to Hagrid. Buckbeak attacks Malfoy in POA, although Malfoy insults him first.

HOUSE-ELF
House-elves are tiny, grubby creatures which live to serve one family, almost like a slave. They do housework, like cleaning and cooking, and usually wear a single article of cloth tied toga-style around their frail bodies, although they sometimes wear different things (ex: Dobby wears a pillowcase when he serves the Malfoys; Kreacher wears a loincloth around his middle when he serves Sirius/Harry). House-elves are forbidden from speaking ill of their "masters" or repeating their "masters'" secrets, and can only be liberated if they are presented with an article of clothing from the family whom they serve.

HOUSE-ELF, DOBBY THE
Dobby the house elf is very short and thin. He has an ugly brown face, orb-like eys, and long fingers. He gets Harry into a spot of trouble with the Ministry during the summer before second year, and worked for the Malfoys before Harry tricked Lucius into freeing him. Once he was freed, Dobby went to work for Dumbledore in the Hogwarts kitchens.
